Learning Log Learning Outcomes

This has been the most difficult part of preparing for assessment for me. I looked over the learning outcomes several times, as was non the wiser. They just did not make much sense to me. I did email student services but have not had a reply, probably due to the ongoing pandemic. I decided to take it step by step and figure out what each learning outcomes was asking for. I then looked through my learning log and tried to match them up. I believe I have do so but I hope I have provided suitable links to the appropriate learning outcomes.

Here is my document as a word document:

Here is my learning log links matching with the learning outcomes:

I have used the OCA Course guide for assessment of Photography units (March 2021 version) to help me prepare this document.

Learning Outcome 1

produce convincing visual products that communicate your intentions, using accomplished techniques in complex and unfamiliar environments, with minimal supervision from your tutor.

I believe I have communicated my intentions. I have explored my ideas and have utilized various techniques.

I believe these learning log posts demonstrate this.

I have trialed various approaches and techniques. I have explained my reasoning for using them and have experimented with them in order to find which best worked for me.

Learning Outcomes

I have found that this course has allowed me freedom to experiment. I feel my work was done a lot more independently than the courses. I have researched my work and developed my body of work to form a complete series of images which I believe would work well in the feminist photography around. I started off with a basic understanding of what I wanted to accomplish. I have developed over time to create a detailed series. I have utilised various techniques and have experimented with many along the way. I believe this has benefitted my final result. I think I have also developed my reflective skills and I feel a lot more confident in my work. I feel like I have found my artistic voice and I am confident to use it in the future.

I feel my work does highlight the exclusion of women but also the strength of women fighting against it. I would say my work is complex yet meaningful. I have utilised different techniques, like visual skills and collages. There is a narrative and a link that keeps the series together and working. The three core elements work together and together form a picture for each location but also they work together as a series. I would say my work works in the wider area but I feel it could be situated in postmodern feminism. I believe I have conveyed my ideas in a comprehensive manner and I am happy with the outcome.

I felt that my research benefitted me along the way. I feel it has helped build my Body of Work and I feel I have implemented my research well. Initially I was interested in artists who took images that were not perfect to convey a message. I looked into artists like Catherine Opie and Terri Lowenthal, who both took blurry and images with incorrect exposures. I feel these artists have influenced me and have helped my work.

As I was following a journey and a pilgrimage, I looked into how other artists has done this. I found a very early photographer who photographed the Hajj, called Muhammad Sadiq Bey. I also looked into Tim Hall, Hamish Fulton and Annie Leibovitz for their pilgrimage and journey images. It gave me a chance to see what others had done and how they did it. But also so I could compare mine to see where my work would lie. As the main setting for my images were found churches, chapels and graveyards, I looked into other artists who had used these settings. Artists such as Kaupo Kikkas, Jess Kohl, and Nina Berman. As my work looks into feminism, I looked into feminist artists such as Marie Yates, Paula do Prado, Martha Rosler, Kara Walker and Margaret Harrison. I looked into artists who have used collages and text in their work like Barbara Kruger and Peter Kennard. I found Mary Beth Edelson’s work useful as it is looking at gender inequality in religion and contrasting it with the inequality in the arts. So overall was very helpful for my work. These artists have influenced me along my journey and have helped me make decisions for my work.
